open an existing website

Ok, I know I'm not this darn stupid!! BUT... I can't seem to open an existing
website that has FrontPage Server Extensions loaded on it. I just installed
FrontPage XP, and I opened an Internet Explorer Browser window and directed
it to my website. Then I clicked on the "Edit in FrontPage" button at the
top, and FrontPage opened. It also opened an editable page (the one I was
viewing) BUT it does NOT show me my Folder List on the left side of the
screen. There is NO server listed or any files listed there. And when I go
to save the page, it wants me to save it to my HARD DRIVE instead of on the
server. ALSO... It NEVER NEVER asked me for my username/password before I
started editing it!! What gives? It should have asked me for a
username/password right away after I clicked on "Edit in FrontPage" from IE.
I'm so confused!!

Have the host check / repair the FP SE on the server

Try the normal method of openning a web from within Frontpage: File > Open >
Web/Site then type in the location (either the http: location, or the local
PC hard drive location of the web).

If it is the "live" method, you'll be prompted for your details *unless*
you've said "save password" and set it up in IE for that to happen since the
"save password" or "remember me" feature is controlled by IE.

If it has saved the password a previous session, it will just connect, it
won't prompt for the details. Same thing if you File > Publish the site
from the local to remote.
