The Scheduled TAsks in my control panel includes the follow (twice):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\OOBE\oobebaln.exe /sys /i /n:3

It is scheduled to run every 15 minutes starting on January 29th.

What is it and how do I get rid of it?

oobebaln.exe is Windows Out Of the Box Experience Balloon Reminder.

Probably a Registration reminder.

Register your software.

To remove a scheduled task
1. Open Scheduled Tasks.
2. Right click the task that you want to remove and then click Delete.

You can also remove a scheduled task by selecting it and then pressing
DELETE.

How do I register the software after I've already been using it?

I can't find a link or registration option w/i XP? Thanks.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\OOBE\oobebaln.exe /sys /i /n:3 might be an ISP signup
reminder.

Remove the Scheduled Tasks.

If you have already activated XP, don't worry about registering, registering
is optional.

[[If you have not activated Windows XP, you will be reminded each time you
log in and at common intervals until the end of the activation grace period
of 30 days. If you have not activated Windows XP within this timeframe, you
will need to do so to continue using it.]]

[[Product activation is not the same as product registration. Product
activation is required and is completely anonymous. Product registration, on
the other hand, is completely optional.]]

You can register Windows XP when you activate Windows. However, if you want
to register later, you can do so by using the Registration Wizard. To start
the Registration Wizard, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type regwiz /r in the Open box, and then click
OK.
2. Follow the instructions in the Registration Wizard.

Thanks. I really appreciate your responsiveness. I have legit copies
of Windows that came with each of my computer(s), but I didn't register
when I activated, because I hadn't hooked up the modem, so I went ahead
and registered each computer just now, and deleted the reminder in
scheduled tasks, and that should be it.

Now, who knows a fix to Webroot SpySweeper where it is scheduling the
task (daily sweep) in the MS Scheduler but not performing the Sweep
(the sweep isn't showing in the SpySweeper schedule.
