I've had this problem for years and am determined to figure it out and
avoid renumbering long lists by hand. Here is the scenario: I build a
long list using Word defaults. THEN I decide to break my big list into
2 or more independent lists, each new list starting numbering at ONE.
I click in the major heading, bring up "Format Bullets & Numbering",
leave the default style selected and check 'restart'. As shown below
I DON'T't get what I want.
Before selecting 'restart'
1. xxx
a. xxx
2. xxx
a. xxx
b. xxx
3. xxx
a. xxx
b. xxx
After selecting 'restart' (I want a new list from #3 forward)
1. xxx
a. xxx
2. xxx
a. xxx
b. xxx
1. xxx (Correct)
c. xxx (Should be 'a')
d. xxx (Should be 'b')
I need to completely disconnect the new list from the original.
