Only Browsers cannot connect to I-net...

I have a machine running XP Pro that is connected to a
workgroup with four other machines, connected by a Linksys
8-port wired router to a DSL ISP. From the Pro machine I
can use OE6 to connect to my mail server and download
mail, can ping and tracert to mozilla.org, can see the
other machines in the workgroup, and their shared folders
and printers, MSMessenger thinks I am connected, I can
send error reports to Microsoft. I am getting a valid IP
address, DNS IPs from the router, and the default gateway
IP are also correct.

But for the life of me neither IE6 nor Mozilla 1.5 will
display a page. The header of the browser displays the
title message, and the lower toolbar says that it is
receiving data, and the network connection status says
that it is recieving data. But the browsers will either
time out, or Mozilla's home page appeared, in what
appeared to be, text format. IE gives me a DNS error but
the machine is being fed that information by the same
router that is allowing four other machines to
successfully download webpages.

Any help or guidance is most appreciated. If I have
omitted crucial data I am happy to add it if needed.

Thanks!

Google for lspfix.exe and run it in the default mode (not accessing any
options) to fix the layered services protocol (winsock, etc). I don't
know why this is happening, but I've had two of three XP computers fail
to load web sites and this fixes the problem. I believe it might have
been a recent XP security update.
