Online Clip Art won't download

I am trying to download clipart from the Microsoft Online Gallery. When I
drag-and-drop a photo into powerpoint, it works beautifully. However, when I
try to do this with clip art, it drops the name of the FILE ONLY (as a
picture, not in a textbox) into the powerpoint instead of the picture itself.


I have tried downloading it the "normal" way, (i.e., by clicking on the
clip, then clicking "download" when prompted), but after it goes through the
downloading process, the clip art doesn't show up in my gallery. I tried the
"save" function instead of the "open" function and that didn't work either.

I tried deleting my temporary internet files and that didn't work. I found
the ArtGallery.exe file and double-clicked on that to refresh it, and that
didn't work.

What is going on? By the way, I'm working in Windows XP with Microsoft
Powerpoint 2000 SP-3.

I wonder if the clips are downloading, but not to the place you expect them.

Go to http://office.microsoft.com, click Clip Art on the left, and put in
your search terms. Tick the boxes for the clips you want to download and
click "download x-number of clips" on the right. Click Download now, and
click Open. Let it do its thing. If you already have PPT open, the clip
gallery should open, and you should see the clips you just downloaded. (If
you prefer, go ahead and click Save, but then double-click the CIL file you
downloaded to automatically extract the clips and place them in the clip
gallery.)

Select one and hit Ctrl+C to copy. Click on your slide and Ctrl+V to paste.
Or right-click a clip and choose copy, then right-click on the slide and
choose paste. Dragging the clip from the clip gallery to the slide works
here, so I'm not sure why you'd only be getting the file name and not the
image.

You know, this might be easier -- In PPT, go to Insert|Picture|Clip Art and
look in the category Downloaded Clips. The clips you downloaded should be
there.

Thank you for your reply, Echo; however, I already tried these steps and this
is precisely what does NOT work. When I "Click Download Now" and click
"Open", it does indeed launch the clip gallery, but there are no images to be
found, not even within the "folder" categories (i.e., "People", "Business",
etc.). The images just simply do not show up at all anywhere. This happens
with both photo clips and clip art (illustrations).

Now, as I mentioned before, I CAN at least drag-and-drop PHOTO clips
directly from the www.microsoft.com website to the open powerpoint slide and
it works wonderfully. But when I try to do the same with the clip art, it

Did you look in the "folder category" called Downloads? I suspect that's
where your clips are.

If they're not there, then I'm not sure what the problem is, and I'd suggest
calling Microsoft. You can of course try posting in the
microsoft.public.design.gallery newsgroup
(http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/list/en-us/default.aspx ),
but I know that a couple of the MVPs who frequent that group also read here
fairly regularly, and they probably would have popped in by now if they had
the answer. Or maybe they'll pop in here soon....
