My trial OneCare is telling me the anti-virus isn't up to date and that
there is no solution available. It's the only reason I installed it!!

There is a general problem with OneCare updating at the moment -
hopefully Microsoft are hard at work on the solution.

That message deserves some sort of prize !

Interesting - Two versions of LiveOneCare (one retail version 0 the other
new Beta) successfully update automatically.

You may get a message of that sort if LiveOneCare virus check is off and no
other virus utility is on the computer.

However it may not be the virus update function that is the problem but
LiveOneCare itself. A message similar to "...There is no solution
available... " and/or "Check back later for a solutuion" are typical of
those given in response to problems submitted via the "Problem and
Solutiuon" Control panel applet.

Do "Start>Control Panel>Problem and Solutions - In left dialogue box check
"See problems to check" and "View problem history".

Also you do not state whether or not the other aspects of LiveOne Care are
functioning properly.

If you’re having problems with Microsoft One Care then it looks like the best
thing you can do is to re-install the software. Download the latest version
(1.6.2111.10) from Microsoft or do what I did and place your CD in the drive
and One care automatically downloads the software without loading anything
from the CD. Once installed Activate it by typing in your Hotmail address
and your computers name and all is well. (Until the next problem!).

I think Onecare can be somewhat problematic. Although I am using the latest
beta copy it too has a tendency to inform me that it cannot update the anti
virus. Obviously, my copy is running on a virtual machine, simply because I
use Sophos Enterprise anti virus on my main machine. What I have found,
though, is that if I simply leave OneCare alone while I'm surfing the
internet or doing other jobs it should eventually update itself. I've had
this happen about three times so far and after being on the web for about 40
minutes or so it has 'eventually' updated.

Would you believe it ! It appears that at approximately 17.30 hrs GMT it
updated
itself automatically.

I just got a phone call from a client that wants to get rid of Onecare
because the icon is orange or red and tells her there is a problem
with her system. I told her what I usually tell her, just ignore it
and it will update and turn green. Not good enough for her and I had
to go over and guess what, as soon as I knocked on the door she told
me it turned green. Way to go Microsoft, easy money for some! :-)

What Microsoft needs to do for these types is turn the icon a nice
soothing calm blue with the help balloon saying, "Update in progress -
Don't worry, be happy!.

She is not my only client that wants to get rid of Onecare and back to
Norton, but she is the only one that paid for the subscription.
