Live OneCare installed updates that I don't want

P

I tried out OneCare. You'll notice that I used the past tense. I have
uninstalled it. Before I installed OneCare, I set Updates to download & then
notify me. OneCare changed Updates to Automatic. I don't like that. I want to
know what Updates is downloading & decide for myself what to download. It
installed Office 2007 updates. I don't like that. I don't use Office 2007.
OneCare installed Office 2007 updates & I see no way to uninstall them. Am I
stuck with the Office 2007 updates that I don't want? Is there any way to
uninstall them? I can't uninstall them from Programs & Features. Is there a
Registry entry or entries that I can delete?

Thank you.

That doesn't work. I've already tried that. The Office 2007 updates don't
show up. So, now what? Why don't the Office 2007 updates show up in Updates?
What other options do I have or am I stuck with updates that I don't want &
need? Is there a registry entry or entries that I can delete?

You said you don't use Office 2007... right? UNINSTALL IT.

That will take care of your problem quite nicely.

Do you have any of the newest free Office Viewers (like for Visio) installed
that are the 2007 versions, or the "Compatibility Pack for the Office 2007
System" that lets you open Office 2007 documents in Office XP and 2003?
There are updates for these that are listed as updates for Office 2007
because they are considered a part of Office 2007.

You have a point. I read "I don't use Office 2007" to mean "I don't have
Office 2007 installed".

Office 2007 is not installed on my laptop. For some weird reason OneCare
decided to install Office 2007 updates. This is exactly why I DO NOT like
Updates automatically downloading updates. It looks like I'm stuck with the
updates.

But do you have ANY version of Office installed and the "Compatibility Pack
for the Office 2007
System", or ANY Office VIEWER like the new Visio viewer installed?

How do you know the updates for Office 2007 are installed, what is telling
you they are? I have Live One Care as well, tell me where you are looking
in it.

"Something" 2007 has got to be there or the updates wouldn't have been
installed.

A non-existent program canNOT be updated.

He says that they were installed. BUT... he can't find any evidence
of that ANYWHERE.

I think he's smokin' something funny.

If Office 2007 is not installed, updates to it can not have been
installed either. You can't change the carburetor in your Ferrari if
you don't have a Ferrari.

I was actually surprised several months ago when Microsoft Update offered me
some Office 2007 updates, and I knew I was using Office 2003. But I had
installed the "Compatibility Pack", which contains some Office 2007
components for file conversion. I also get Office 2007 updates on a server
that doesn't have any version of Office, just Office File Viewers installed,
since the newest ones are for Office 2007 files. I was thinking maybe he
has a situation like either one of those.

And so far I can't see anywhere in Live One Care that tells me what updates
it has installed.

The Office 2007 updates are listed under "view update history", but for some
weird reason they aren't listed in Programs & Features, so I have no way to
uninstall them.

I do have the Power Point Viewer 2007 installed. Maybe that's why OneCare
took it upon itself to download & install Office 2007 updates. That's the
only thing that I can think of. But, I still don't like the fact that there
is no way for me to uninstall the Office 2007 updates. When OneCare took it
upon itself to change Updates from "download & notify" to Automatic, that
made me very angry. That's why I uninstalled it. I want to decide what
updates to download & install.

EVERY Office update to my machine is

1) visible on the list of updates
2) able to be uninstalled

What IS your problem?

Can't find them?

Or did you delete all the files that are needed to perform the
uninstall to free up drive space?

Go to Programs and Features. In the Tasks frame, click "View Installed
Updates". You'll be given a list of all the MS updates and you'll be able
to uninstall them just like any other program.
