One page - on goddarned webpage won't display

...D.

I have all of the updates to Windows XP, the latest Java from Sun, the
macromedia flash & shock.. But I have little nagging problem using Internet
Explorer and not being able to display one page (a web-based strategy game,
one page out of thousands in the game - this is web based, and not a separate
program running on my computer).

It has happened on a couple of sites that run the game. Others can see the
page that I cannot see.

It is even more frustrating because me & my son have just put up a website to
run the game (Blacknova Traders). And we run two games. But in game1, I can
see the "map". In game2, I cannot see the map. The map I think is the most
intensive page in the game - all other pages are very quick to load, but the
map takes a little while (broadband).

The difference between the two games is in game1, where I can see the map, it
is a 3000 sector universe, while game 2, where I cannot see the map, it is an
8000 sector universe. But like said others can see the map in game2. When I
view it in game1, it takes about 3 seconds and then finishes loading. When I
try to view it in game2, it takes about 8 seconds (I see meter begin to load
with just one green colored dot), and then it loads, but I get an all white
completely empty window (not counting The Internet Explorer toolbar/address
bar - I see I am in the right page by the IE toolbar title). I have to use
the IE go back arrow to go back to the previous page.

So what is it - it must have something to do with size?? Anyone have any
ideas? it must be something i have set with size or loading time...

I have tried messing with several Internet Explorer Options, but it's just no
good. & Blacknova Traders uses of course HTML like other websites (main
webpage file). But if this helps, it uses mostly .PHP file extensions (I can
add in HTML code in the .php files, like to have it show a JPG picture, but it
has to be in an acceptable place in the code (not interupt a script or
something I guess).

So why aren't you asking the people who wrote the game
what's different about that page?

Do you really expect anyone here to have the faintest
idea what is on one page of an obsucre web game?

Hey, thanks a ton for the constructive reply. It accomplished a whole lot for
me....

But to answer your question - YES. Of course I expect someone to have a
"faint" idea. I posted because it is an XP problem, isn't it? & I believe
it is an Internet Explorer thing. I said it looks like a size thing because
of the 3000 sector universe vs an 8000 sector universe. So next time read...
(BTW this the original was also posted a win XP basics newsgroup).

If no one knows why size wouldn't matter then I'd appreciate mentioning it.
Then I can begin to look elseware for an answer.

How about a little exercise in problem solving? Did you
look for answers to the follwing questions before posting
here?

1) How can you be sure that it's a size thing? Are you
sure there are no differences other then size between
the 3000 and the 8000 versions? If it is a size thing,
why one particular page out of, as you say, thousands?

2) You say that others can see the page that you can't
see. Are any of them using XP? If so, how can this be
attributed to XP?

3) Have you considered all of the millions of application
and hardware conflicts that might contribute to or
cause a problem like this? And that some of them might
be beyond your control (as in the case of an isolated
bug in the target app)?

My assumption is that you hope someone here will have a
"faint idea" because your own tiny mind is incapable of
functioning at that level.

For the rest of you, I said that 1st off, this is all Internet Explorer -
forget that it is a game, yes it is a game, but all Internet web page based.
Just changing pages & nornally .PHP files running the game. OK, I said if the
game is a 3000 sector universe, then I can see this map page just fine &
dandy. When it is, say, a 5000 sector universe, then I cannot see the map
page, it tries, (a delay), & I end up with an all white window - except I.E.'s
stuff is OK, just content of the page - the address bar tells me I am on the
right page where the map should be. The map page loads up or uses very small
GIFs in places to represent certain things. I didn't write the game, so I
can't be more specific. The map will be wider than my screen width and to see
it all I scroll to the right (when I can see it with the 3000 sector
universe). I also said that with this larger universe of 5000 sectors, others
can see the map & not me.

So to answer your question - no I am not sure if it is specifically a size
thing, meaning bytes or bits it takes up. I say it is a "size' thing, since I
can see this page when the universe is 3000 sectors, so less loaded on the
page I guess than a 5000 sector universe would be. But also, maybe a 5000
sector universe needs more horizontal scrolling too, but I don't know, because
I have never seen it bigger than a 3000 sector universe. & finally I
mentioned that even when I can see it 93000 sector universe), the page still
takes a few seconds to load, on an otherwise fast server & otherwise fast page
loads.

I will live without it. I'd just like to know what is going on....
