I've had a lot of grief with DLink wireless routers (614+ and 714P)
and switched to a Netgear router and having much better success.
However, on all three wireless routers, I've had issues with XP on my
laptop.
I broadcast my SSID, and I have WEP turned on with the strongest
encryption I can get (performance isn't that big of an issue for me at
this time).
Trouble is, some of my neighbors (8-unit apartment building) also have
wireless, and my system keeps kicking me off of my wireless
connection, saying "one or more wireless connections are available"
and I have to click to re-select my own network even though I was
happily connected to it.
At first, it was only one neighbor, but as of this morning, three of
my neighbors all have wireless access points now, broadcasting SSID's
(two of them are the default SSID for their SMC and Linksys products,
the third was a customized name).
Is there ANY possible way to tell XP to completely ignore any SSID's
that are not on my 'Preferred Networks' list?
My girlfriend has wireless at her place, so I have that listed, and I
frequent many of my neighborhood Starbucks 'cause I'm an addict and
use T-Mobile's HotSpot while I'm there... But those are the ONLY
networks I want to have available to me.
I've debated telling XP to NOT let Windows manage my wireless network
settings, but I dunno what that would do for me.
Any assistance would be very much appreciated.
