I have a desktop and laptop, both connected to a router. Had to reload the
laptop totally fresh (from the disk image that it came with initially), so
all settings are gone.

I have both computers on the same group name, and the desktop definitely has
some shared folders (not to any specific users). The laptop, however, cannot
see anything on the group I have set up. When I say to go to view workgroup
computers, it comes up with a message saying that the name of the network is
not accessible and that I might not have permissiosn to use the network
resource.

Suggestions on where to start to look are appreciated. It was so long ago
that I had set them up (and they were working) that I now forget what I may
have done last time.

Thanks.

Boris,

Check both for misconfigured / overlooked firewalls, and for the
restrictanonymous setting.
Misconfigured / overlooked firewalls:

Registry setting restrictanonymous:

If no help, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each XP computer,
and we'll diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and
follow instructions precisely:

Please let us know if any of these suggestions are of any help. What you learn
may help others in the future, and that's the purpose of these forums.
