Imagine the most computer illiterate person you can think of... and then
imagine having to describe how to publish a live site to a local
computer. Well not only do I have to do this but I only have access to
FP2000 and the person I'm giving instructions to has FP2002. I've
talked this person through opening up the site live, but when they go to
publish it to the local computer the publish window is apparently
extremely different from my 2000 version and we seem to get stuck. They
already have a version of the site on their local computer but really
messed the layout up and the only way I could repair it was to go into
the live site. So now I need them to publish the live site to their
local folder to overwrite their mistakes. Here's what I told them to
do:

2. Now go to File>Publish Web and in the window that pops up click
browse then in the new window that pops up left click once on the My
Documents tab. Now in the middle of this new window find the folder
titled My Webs and double click on it. Then find the folder that your
website is in and left click once on it so that it's highlighted and
then hit the open button.

3. Now the window should say that it's publishing to
file:///C:/MyDocuments/MyWebs/mywebfolder make sure it's set to publish
changed pages only then just hit the publish button and sit back and
relax.

They say that the publish window has two different windows in it and
they can't tell if it's going to the correct folder, but they think it's
trying to publish back to the internet. Can someone just walk me
through the differences in a FP2000 publish window and the FP2002 one?

even a screen cap of the publish window would be helpful...

They are trying to publish to a Disc based web:
C:/MyDocuments/MyWebs/mywebfolder
(which should really be C:\My Documents\My Webs - note the slashes)

1) In windows explorer have them create a new top level folder w/o any spaces in the folder name
- say C:\MyWeb
2) In FP have them open the online site (http://wwwtheirsite.com/) and use File Publish (All), then just select Browse, to the
browse to the existing folder C:\MyWeb

Note they could use the location C:\My Documents\My Webs, but FP may cause link problems because of the inherent spaces in the
folder names
(it can become C:\My%20Documents\My%20Webs\ and generate file based rather than relative links)

All you can do is have them send you a screen shot to figure out what they are talking about
