I have a document already typed and on one text page, I need to put across
the page in the background the work "SAMPLE ONLY". I don't know how to do
this, can anyone help?

I can think of at least three ways to do this, but here's the simplest...

Go to Format > Background > Printed Watermark. (I'm assuming here that you
have Word 2002 or 2003; earlier versions don't have this command.) Select
"Text watermark". Type "SAMPLE ONLY" in the Text box, select the font you
want, and click OK.

This puts the watermark into the header, so it now appears on all pages. To
get it to appear only on one page, continue with this:

Double-click in the header area to open it (or View > Header). Click on the
watermark so it becomes selected (you'll see little circles at the corners
and edges). Cut it to the clipboard (Ctrl+X). Double-click in the text to
close the header area. Put the cursor in a text paragraph anywhere on the
page where you want the watermark, and paste from the clipboard (Ctrl+V).
