I have a broadband connection with my XP PC
I used to have the two small display screen icons showing I was connected to
the Internet and could see what connection speed I had but the icon does not
appear now although I can access the Internet
How can I get the icon to appear and until that happens how do I see the
connection speed?

Windows XP is able to hide inactive system tray icons, so it may just
have hidden the thing. To find out if you have the icon set to appear,
go to Start, Network Connections. Right-click on your "Local Area
Connection" icon. Choose Properties, and click the check box for "Show
icon in Notification area when connected." If the box is checked, the
icon should appear when you are connected.

I accept what you say and that icon for the LAN appears OK and shows a speed
of 100 Mbps
What I am looking for is the Broadband connection which shows the connection
speed which in my case is 2.2 MIPS
I used to see this icon as well. Where is it?

Is your computer connected directly to the Internet (that is, directly
connected to your broadband modem)? Or is there a router or some other
kind of hardware between your computer and the modem?
