~ on Desktop

Every now and then, a ~ character appears on my desktop. I can't figure out
how it gets there. I have the whole works of protections software - Norton
antivirus & firewall, AdAware, & Spybot. How do I stop the ~ from appearing
on the desktop.

Greetings --

One of the recent "hotfixes" for OE causes the file to be created
when you update the address book. It's just a duplicate copy of the
address book and can be safely deleted. A permanent fix is in
development.

Thanks. I thought it was a trojan or worm, cos when I opened it with a text
editor, I saw a whole lot of e-mail addresses from my Address Book!
