omg its dead! HELP

[Chris]

Went to install service pack 1 update. During
installation it popped up a box.. some file .tmp. Ignored
it and went on through install. Went to reboot pc today.
Its blank. It wont reinstall windows xp. It wont boot
windows in safe mode. 2 questions. 1. If I use system
restore through safe mode, will it fix the problem? And
2. IF not can u explain what happened and how to fix it?

Instead of Safe Mode try "Last known good configuration"
