OLK7

I did a Windows Explorer search for OLK7 in that I often see this referred to
when downloading files off the Web. The search showed it located in
C:\Documents and Settings\John.COMPANY\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files. When I take this path, there is nothing referencing OLK7 in the
Temporary Internet File. I have the "show hidden files" checked in Control
Panel's Folder Options. There are 111 items listed in the Temporary Internet
totaling 482 MB. None are listed as shortcuts.

In an effort to keep my system lean, fast and efficient, I try to keep
unecessary files deleted. However, these files are valid entities in various
folders through my hard drive and they cannot be lost.

Why isn't OLK7 file specifically shown and can these files be deleted
without them being deleted in their respective folders? I would appreciate
anyone's insight into this matter and thanks in advance for your help.

Sincerely,
John Couch

"OLK7" is a special temporary folder created when you open an e-mail
attachment or to hold the "temporary file" that is being downloaded
before it is complete and then transfered to the "downloaded files"
folder. It is not for the "users" use and is not "accessible".

Hi Bob,
Thanks for your response.

Well, that explains why it is not seen in Windows Explorer. But, an
Explorer search shows all these files. Can they be deleted from the OLK7
folder and not harm the same documents as filed in various folders on my hard
drive?

Experimentation shows that "deleting" them will move them to the recycle
bin. From there you can cut and paste them elsewhere. The "ones" in the
"OLKx" are the originals and not the "Save As" copies that you have
elsewhere. Maybe someone in the Outlook newsgroup has more info about
what goes on behind the "curtains".
