Word OLE from Math to wordpad

I have created an object in openoffice Math and am attempting to link it into a wordpad file. However I am only able to see about half of the first letter in the object - the font size, for some reason has been increased. I don't have a problem if I embed the object. I can link to other objects (photos etc.) from wordpad without a problem. Is there something I am missing here?
