Older games & educational programs

I am having a problem loading some of the older games and educational
programs.

I have a typing tutorial and AD&D Core Rule Expansion and when I try to
install either one I receive the following message:

C:\Windows\System 32\Config.NT. System file not suitable for running MSDOS
and Microsoft Windoes applications. Click close to exit installation.

What do I do and how do I get the computer, with XP, to accept these types
of programs.
