Old XP Restore folders

I have some old restore folders created from XP which are taking up a lot of
space. How do I get rid of them. I have already tried the cleanup utility
and also trying to change attributes then deleting, but nothing works.

If this was an upgrade from XP, is there an entry in the Add/Remove
programs for it? If not, rename the folder for a week or two and if
nothing complains after that, delete it. Or are you saying you can't
delete it?

I tried renaming it, but it won't stick. I can't delete it, rename it,

Have you tried doing it in Safe Mode?

Just tried it. No luck. By the way, there are over 4gb of old _restore
subfolders in the system volume information folder.

You can't selectively choose which Restore folders to save or delete, but if
you're sure that you want to get rid of them ALL, turn off System Restore on
your computer. This will delete them.

Then turn System Restore back on and manually create a restore point.
Thereafter, so long as System Restore is kept on, a new Restore Point will
be created approximately every 25 hours.

Oops, disregard my previous message. I thought you were running XP, rather
than Vista.
