I have installed WinXP SP2 and am after the usual hassle of drivers not
running properly anymore I've almost attained a stable system again.

Unfortunately there are some older programs , which don't seem to work
correctly anymore, e.g. Encarta World Atlas 97. The maps show all right, but
the text and picture pages appear just blank. There are also some
documentation pages in another program, that bring up the standard IE page
not found message.

I have tried playing with the security standards of IE to no avail.

On-line support from MS was not helpful.

you may need to install Java support ...google for "sun Java"

I have experienced "corrupted" visuals after my SP2 upgrade. Here is what I
did:

1) Un-installed my "current" video card drivers (nVidia)

2) Found and installed a driver clean-up utility (detonator_RIP).

3) Ran it to remove all video driver traces.

4) Let XP use standard VGA

5) Installed a more recent version of the nVidia drivers.

It seems that MS had included DirectX 9.0c with SP2 and my video card
drivers "seemed" to run correctly but no Direct 3D application could display
anything. After I did these steps, all is "normal" (if anything is normal
with MS and XP).

Y.

It is working all right for me; I can only presume some of its registry
settings are damaged. For which best course would be to uninstall it,
reboot and install it again
