old NIC

I've got a couple issues that may be related, or may not. On one older
windows 2000 DC I have noticed regular messages that say:
Event ID: 5782
source: NETLOGON
"Dynamic registration or deregistration of one or more DNS records failed
with the following error: No DNS servers configured for local system."

so I was looking at the Network IP settings, and when I try to "OK" out of
them even without changing anything it says:

the IP address is already assigned to another adapter that is hidden from
the network and dial-up connections folder because it is not physically in
the computer or is a legacy adapter that is not working....

I used to have 2 NICs in this server but now only have one. it seems to me
it is remembering the old adapter. Is there something I should do to get it
out of there?

maybe I should demote the server and then re-promote it?

That's WAAAAAAYYYY over the top from the problem! Have you looked in
Device Manager? Is it still in there?
