old IP Address

I have a rather starnge problem. There's an old IP address that is still
showing up as pingable in our network. This address use to be an old DC for
a brief period of time. The old server no longer exists anywhere but for
some reason still shows up as pingable. I can't find the IP address anywhere
in DNS or Wins. This is causing an issue in our network. What can I do to
resolve the issue.

If it's replying, something "intelligent" is responding. It may be a
relatively dumb network device (modem, router, firewall, access point,
whatever) or it may be a computer. Do you have a DHCP server in your
network which might issue this address? You may have trouble
identifying a suitable login account/password, but you might be able to
use psexec from sysinternals.com (now Microsoft) to run "hostname" on it
perhaps? Windows 2000 and later can have multiple IP addresses on a
single adapter.

I'm really lossing it these days. I misread the IP address assigned to the
server verses another address. We have no issue regarding this IP address.
Thanks for your help.
