I'm getting a new PC with Vista on it, I would like to take my old hard drive
with XP on it and add it into the new CPU box to be able to dual boot between
the two drives. Both operating systems are legal and licensed, so my question
is will I have any problems with the old XP hard drive discovering that all
the hardware has changed...what do I have to do other than change drivers on
the old drive? What sort of problems can I expect?

If XP came preinstalled on the old computer then it is likely an OEM
version. This means you can not move it to another system as OEM versions
are legally tied forever to the system they were originally installed on. In
fact some OEM versions are BIOS locked and won't even boot on a different
motherboard.

However if the version is not an OEM version then you can move it. First
access the BIOS on the new system and the command that asks for Plug n Play
OS to "Enabled". Often this is set to Disabled by default. Shut down the
computer and connect the old drive as Slave. Your system needs to have an
option to select boot device during startup. Choose the second drive and it
should boot up. Be aware that dual boot setups can really mess up System
Restore points. If your system doesn't have an option to select boot drive
at startup you will need third party software. BING NG is a good choice.

Thanks! It's on a hard drive that I installed on a home built PC, so it's far
from OEM!

Can you explain this option to select boot drive in a little more detail?
Moreover, I've always had a problem with all my set ups...I can't recall the
last time I've ever had it work?

Anyway...thanks for the help!
