old addresses of updated contacts & distribution lists used in ema

Outlook 2003 - my outlook used to work perfectly, but for the last few months
any new or updated emails addresses in my contacts or distribution lists are
not used when the email is sent. If I go look in contacts, the updates are
there, and I cannot find the old versions - but my email finds them. How do
I get outlook email to use the latest version of my contacts? The problem
started when an automatic microsoft update was installed on my machine.

Are you using AutoComplete to pick the addresses? In other words, you
start to type the address and it suggests a list of addresses...is THAT
what you're picking the address from? Or are you typing the name and
letting it automatically resolve?

For your distribution lists have you tried opening the Distribution List
and clicking "Update Now"?

Yes I am using autocomplete and sometimes I type the nickname - but either
way it uses an older version of an updated address.

I tried clicking update now on the distribution list (which I have never
used), but it made no difference.

But I didn't know that function was called autocomplete - so I searched on
it and found a problem description similar to my problem but the solution did
not work.

When I followed the above instructions, I found 2 NK2 files, one called
Rosemary.NK2 and the other Outlook.NK2. When I followed the instructions and
renamed both to .bak, outlook could not find the distribution list when I
typed in the full name followed by a semi-colon. When I renamed rosemary.bak
to .NK2 nothing happened in outlook. When I renamed outlook.bak to .NK2 I
got the old versions of the addresses again.

By the way, thank you for responding to my request. Any other suggestions?

Ben, you triggered the solution. It is working now. Instead of changing the
file name under search, I went to the folder and tried the solution again,
but changing the file name from there. Perhaps outlook resolved something in
the sequence of my changes. But the current version of my contacts is now
being accessed in outlook. So thank you SOOO much for taking the time to
respond to my request. I am thrilled that you were able to help me - even
though it was indirectly. You are a kind soul.
