OL2007 Archiving Brings OL to a Slow Crawl

I dread it when OL 2007 asks if I want to Auto Archive my old items now. I
know I need to do it some time, but when I say yes, Outlook is unusable for
at least 5 minutes, and often I can not do anything else on my computer while
archiving is underway. Is there some way to set Archiving so that it doesn't
suck up all the computer's resources?
 
I don't think you can crank down archiving's CPU usage but what you can do
is manually trigger archiving when you've got free time using the File menu
Archive command. That will cause auto-archiving to have less to do when it
