OL2003 email server issues

Just upgraded to Office 2003 Pro. Network is a 2000 SBS
w/ Exchange, etc. I have configured a POP3/SMTP internet
email server, and the Exchange email server.

However, the new Outlook is not finding happiness with my
Exchange.

Problem: When I receive an internet email from my POP3
account, and then try to forward that message to a member
in my Exchange domain group, that forwarded message is
mistakenly sent to my internet POP3/SMTP server...and is
subsequently returned by the mailer-daemon.

I CAN HOWEVER, send new messages and reply to the
Exchange members without problems - as well as send and
reply/forward to the internet contacts without problems.

Therefore, there is an issue with how the Exchange server
recognizes an Exchange-bound email when that message
being forwarded was originally an external/internet
server message.

I have attempted:
To reorder and set Exchange as default server. - no dice
To remove the POP3 and SMTP connectors in Exchange - so
that it wouldn't accidentally pass through - again, no
dice

Any assistance is appreciated.
Thanks!

Outlook has never played well with Internet Mail serives in the same profile
as the Exchange Service. Unfortunately, there isn't much good advice I can
give you other than to say you could separate the two services into
different profiles or start using Exchange for external mail as well as
internal. If you've already shelled out the $$ to use an Exchange Server,
you may as well get as much out of it as you can.

Replies and forwards of messages are, by default, sent via the account on
which the original message was received - in your problem case, the POP3
account. You can change the account through which a message is being sent
with the "accounts" dropdown on the reply/forward message on a
message-by-message basis, but you can't change the default behavior. One
question I have is why mail sent to Exchange recipients is being bounced by
your ISP - is your Exchange server not visible on the Internet? If not, why
not? If it were, you wouldn't be having this problem.

I disagree. Outlook 2000 and earlier certainly didn't play well in this
configuration, but Outlook 2002 and 2003 work fine - I use such
configurations all the time.

As for why my Exchange server isn't published - well, I'm
running a private internal with dynamic IP - not a VPN.

....one day, just not yet. And then ALL my stuff will be
running through the server, but as for now I have
separate domain/mail hosting.

Thanks though - good eye on the 'drop-down'...missed that
one, but I'll just have to remember it for next time.

Thanks for your input.

I just want to say that running everything through
Exchange - which I've tinkered with - is problematic for
how my business is configured.

And the MS POP3 connector is WEAK - I mean, 15 minute
minimum intervals on new message scans? come on...I
figure I could shell out even more for a decent app,
but ...well it's not worth it for where we're at.

Thanks though!

What do you mean "15 minute minimum intervals on new message scans"?
Outlook imposes no such restriction. If you're hitting one, it's imposed by
your ISP.

Jeff I think anonymous is referring to the POP3 connector that ships with
SBS
