OL 2003: Creating a rule to Mark All As Read

P

PaulAlex

Hello. Is there any way to set up a rule to automatically mark a
folder's contents (the mail messages) as read?

Here's the deal. I have an IMAP account, and I created a rule to move
email that I send from the PST's Sent Items to the IMAP server's Sent
Items.

Problem is that when the rule fires, the IMAP server's Sent Items
shows it as unread. I'd like to have it marked as read, but there does
not seem to be such a rule to do this.

Any ideas?

Hi Paul,

Sorry we don't have such rule to mark the unread message to be the read
message.

The behavior is bydesign.

Workaround:

1. Open Outlook

2. Right click on the Sent Items folder and choose Open in New Window

3. Be sure the new window also has the Preview Pane open.

4. Click View, Current View, Customize Current View. Click Filter, and the
More Choices tab. Check the box to show only unread meassages.

5. Minimize the Deleted Items Window.

When a message arrives, the Rules Wizard will move the message the the Sent
Items folder as usual. It will mark the message as being read and the New
Mail icon will disappear from the Systray.

When you click File, Exit and Log Off it will close both Windows.

You must initiate this process when opening Outlook each time. We do not
have a command line switch at this time that will do this.

Hi Steven:

Thanks for the reply, and the workaround, on this. Perhaps this could
be a feature request for the next version of Outlook...?

Thanks again,
Paul

Hi Paul,

You are welcome.

You can send mail to (e-mail address removed). The developer team will gather
such information to provide more function in the next version. Therefore, I
can't grantee whether the next version Office will include the feature.
