Have 2 profiles on my OL. One connected to company e-mail
server, the other to external pop3 server. The don't run
in parallel.

Something has 'landed' in my pop3 profile that leads to
exceedingly long response times, intense unidentifiable
hard disk activity and a general total slowing down of
all applications. This only affects the pop3 profile.

Use Trend Antivirus and automatic as well as manual
system scan, pop 3 scan, and mail scan both show clean.

Task Manager shows identical processes for both profiles
although OUTLOOK.EXE uses somewhat more memory (from 11.5
to 13.2) in pop3 mode.

Anyone come across something similar or have any hints as
to how?

thx

Niels

It turned out that the .pst file had somehow been
corrupted. Mailbox Repair Tool wouldn't work and required
a checkdisk routine first, which is not as easy in XP as
in the old days.

So for those with similar problems, the CHKDSK
application is in My Computer, relevant drive, tools,
repair. Run this first, then Inbox Rapair Tool. But be
warned, hours are needed if you have a sizeable Hard
Drive.

With a 40 Gb hard drive, a CHKDSK takes about 10 minutes or less on my
machine (1.8 GHz Pentium IV)
