I love the new Vista menus. I love finding what I'm looking for in one or
two seconds by typing it in the start menu search box. I didn't like the
Classic menus even before Vista.

Every time a new menu comes out for windows it is a step above the rest. I
think the xp start menu works fine until it takes up the whole screen. I like
the new vista start menu the best.

I use Classic Mode only. I don't like the "cartoon interface" default of Windows Vista. I didn't
much care for it in Windows XP either.

I also change the default folder view to Details, show hidden/system files, expose all file
extensions, include Atttibutes (so I can see that pesky 'R' on read-only files) and a few other
things.

Flying blind (the default) is not my idea of how to use Windows.

While I agree without completely there, this isn't related to whether
you use classic mode, or the new interface -- You can have all the
details you want either way.

I religiously use the classic menus. There is still an option to run
the computer in vista native mode, but still use a classic menu, isn't
there (from the right-click task bar properties)?

Yes, there is...

I DO!

I still use Win 95 schemes. I hate the new schemes. All of the new
desktops (especially in Office 2007) look like the bottom of a swimming pool.

BTW, Office 2007 will NOT let you use the Windows default scheme (whatever
you have set.) You have your choice of 3 schemes, and you can take it or
leave it.

BINGO!

Yes, the XP Theme looks like a 1950's JUKEBOX.

I don't need it.

Office 2007 -- NO Windows Classic Theme -- NO changing colors, fonts, font
size, et cetera?

I love Vista's new setup completly, I just cant get enough of the new menus
espesially the Start menu. The last computer I had was a Windows 95 so you
can guess why I love Windows Vista.

I love the new look too and all, except I have one problem that I never was
able to find a sollution to, maybe someone here can tell me of one, if there
is one that is?
How on earth can we PLEASE change the giganticly huge size of the new
desktop icons!?
Man! those things are huge!
They boggart way to much desktop space and you can't change them even when
you try to use some other desktop scheme, i tried everything on the planet i
could think of including manually changing the icon's size in the edit
fields, and STILL they wouldn't change!
Grrrr, are we stuck with giant icon on the desktop if we want to have any on
the desktop that is?
I haven't found any threads or topics on this subject yet, which really
supprises me, since I would think that most people would of noticed that
right off the bat, no?

OK, thanx.................md :)

Of course, two seconds after i posted this question I suddenly found the
answers, several of them in fact, so there ya go LOL
Thanx though anyway and I'd still like to know where others around here find
answers to these sorts of questions, as it would save a lot of time on a
person if they could just find answers to these types of off the wall
questions, as I couldn't for the life of me find them or figure them out from
anywhere in Vista?

Thanx...............md :)

The new vista menus are very cool and productive. It is alot easer to find
filles now, even if you forgot were you saved them. All you have to do is
type the name or a key word from the programe and it well bring it up for
you.

I am seasoned computer professional.
Not only I am not using new (XP or Vista) style menue. Classic one is bad
too. The only reasonable OS shell was invented by Peter Norton 20 years ago
and later was improved by Mr. Ghisler in his Total Commander. Once you get
used to it, you do not need menue, desktop, sidebar, officebar, no any other
bar. You just have all your files and shortcuts in a single place one click
away. And no "My everything" at all. Just your disks and network. Just your
computer tha way it is.

Well I just pucrchased Windows Ultimate 64 bit, the only thing it is
ultimate in is frustration of course the performance is good nothing works
with it so I would compare it to DOS 3.3, may as well install DOS that would
be fast when nothing else is running.

Time to swithch to Linux

why be ashamed of something you are comfortable with, personally the new
menu's are anoying then agian Windows is anoying. This is the most expensive
and most useless OS that I ever purchased, this is so bad it should be given
free to everybody

I can get used to anything, but I really miss the WExplorer file tree. If I
go back to Classic, is Explorer (windows, not IE) the same as before?

It's time consuming enough to get use to any new operating system let alone
figuring out how to navigate around a new menu lay-out. I'll be staying with
the classic. Frankly the 3.1 menue was the easiest to nav.
This also is the situation when nVidia offerd a new lay out. That lasted
about one minute and it was back to the classic.

When I saw this subject I had to reply because I felt the same way about
always setting up my system to use classic menus.

I feel the new menus in Vista are great; it did take some time to get used
to but once your used to it; you'll instantly notice the benefits.

Remeber upgrading from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95; people said the same thing
but once they got used to it; it turned out for the better.
