ok to remove Icon how do I restore

T

T. Duprex

Using Windows XP Pro. When I insert a thumb drive or a supplementary hard
drive via usb I used to get an icon in the lower right notification area
that let me know Windows as attached the device and which I subsequenly
clicked on to subsequently remove the drive. That icon no longer appears.
Where do I go to restore its presence so that I can remove devices
properly?

TIA

Safely Remove Hardware.

Click on the chevron << in the Notification Area to see if the Safely Remove
Hardware icon has been hidden.

Make sure that Safely Remove Hardware is not set to Always Hide.

Right click the Taskbar | Properties | Taskbar tab | Customize button |
Click on the Behavior item to show the V | Click the V to display; Hide when
inactive, Always hide and Always show | Now you can select one

[[In Microsoft Windows XP, icons in the Notification area (on the right side
of the taskbar) are, by default, hidden when they are inactive. This
behavior is determined by a setting, which can be cleared or selected for
each item.]]

Running the rundll32.exe restored the Safely Remove Hardware Notification.

The Safely Remove Hardware icon was not hidden. In checking Taskbar |
Properties |Taskbar tab | Customize button| Safely Remove Hardware was not
listed. However when I did a run:rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL
hotplug.dll the Safely Remove Hardware window appeared and there was my
device. I stopped it, then removed it and then plugged it back in and it
now shows up in the notification area.

Thanks for you help Wesley.
