Ok to move Outlook.pst to new folder?

George

I'm using OutlookXP(2003) with business contact manager, and make regular
backups of "My Documents" but to get Outlook data in there, I have to first
'copy' outlook.pst into a folder I made of...

My Documents/Outlook>outlookCOPY.pst
also I keep the bcm data in there like this...
My Documents/Outlook>msbusinesscontactmanagerCOPY.msbcm

1) Can I (permanently) move the root outlook.pst file into the My Documents
folder, so I won't have to copy it in each time?

2) Is this ok and/or commonly done, is there anything special about the
folder that outlook.pst is in right now?

3) Will it upset Outlook first time I start it (or on ongoing basis)... like
lots of broken links or whatever?

Thanks,
George

Hi George

If the Outlook.pst file is in it's original location, then yes you can copy
it to wherever you like. However, like you mentioned you will get an error
message the first time you start Oulook after the move. The simplest way to
do this would be through the mail applet in Control Panel.

First of all cut and paste the Outlook.pst to the location you desire.
Simply click on show profiles, click on properties and then on data files.
Remove the data file (which should point to the old location of your
Outlook.pst) and then click on add, and point it to the new location.

Close out of there and then open Outlook

This should stop Outlook from throwing an error when you log in again.
