Oh, where is my boot.ini file?

Right before Windows XP boots up, I get a message that says, "Invalid
BOOT.INI file ...booting from \Windows"

I did a search for boot.ini and turned up nothing. How can I correct the
problem?
 
I do have my boot.ini file in C:\ if that is any help.

Looking at it, I notice that it has "timeout=30". Can this number be
reduced to speed things up?
