Oh no!!!

Paul Graham

I need help. Urgently!!!
I feel as though I am doing everything wrong here.

Why?

Well, a while back I installed Vista Ultimate 64. It was a nice clean
install as well - I gave all three HD's a good wash in bleach and dried them
in the airing cupboard. I even read up on the web about all the drivers for
my v card, sound card, printers, camera, etc etc so even if there wasn't a
new up to date one, I wouldn't be too mad and freaked out if things didnt
work.
I rubbed all the new slot-in cards up and down some nice acrylic carpetting
first to clean them, and even showed them my cats whilst stroking them -
then slotted them back into the motherboard.
I bought extra memory - but admit that I did play around with the pretty
static sparks whilst drawing patterns with them in the dust on my monitor
screen. They seem ok though. I actually like the way the pc squawks at me
when starting up...
After a few tweaks and bits of knob fiddling, guess what? (and this will
disturb some of you, I know...)

It worked!

Yep, Vista worked. All of my periher....periferr...pairifa....things that
are attached by big long cables worked.

I feel so lonely.

I come on the newsgroups, and I just don't feel part of it at all. Why can't
my video card cause problems, so I can also feel wanted?
Can anyone get my tv tuner card to de-function so I can join in with this
banter? I can't help it if I didn't forget to update the drivers! Honest!
What can I do for someone to call me names/make me feel small/give me the
text equivalent of a handbag swipe around my face? It's just not fair.
I do admit that a few things DID go wrong. Baby Vista didn't like the Beta
video card drivers - a bit like bad canned food. So I stopped feeding Baby
Vista that flavour and it's happy again.
Dreamscene is not very stable, but I know that's Baby Vista just having a
tantrum - the pc equivalent of throwing the toys out of the playpen. But I'm
patient - the visit of Auntie SP1 will fix problems. Probably create a few
more as well, but life would be dull otherwise.

Maybe I should go back to a good old Commodore Pet - or one of them Atari
400's. They were lovely. 16k of built in memory. You knew where you were
with all those nice problems when saving your files to a cassette tape.

sigh.

All the best, Paul.

(and for those still wearing open toed sandals, who's hair hasn't seen a
brush never mind shampoo in a decade and might have an Elastoplast on the
bridge of his/her glasses........ this was a joke! Honest! ;-) )

Jesus Christ, mate. Looks like you need a shrink, not a newsgroup :)

I guess I'm lucky. With the exception of having to download a new
driver for my Canon scanner, all my hardware worked. I had some
inconsequential programs that weren't compatible, but I expected that.
