Offline syncing problem

On one of my users laptop, he was successfully maintaining a very large (23
gig) set of offline, synced folders. He ran into some problems and now when
ever he tries to sync, the system shows scanning forever and never syncs. I
tried deleting offline files and none show up. I eventually went into the
Windows\CSC folder and deleted everything (about 21 gig worth). I thought
starting fresh might be the answer. The problem is the same. Even if I try
to sync only a small folder. Its as if there is an archive bit or something
set on these files so they don't want to synchronize. This guy's going to
India next week and he's hounding me to fix the problem.

I don't know all that much about offline folders, only that they
are sometimes unreliable.

But there may be an alternative solution, using direct folder
mirroring with Robocopy or even just using XCOPY.
