Offline Folders

Hi,
I have followed the instructions in help to set my outlook
2000 inbox (and sub-folders) to offline (C:\Documents and
Settings\...\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.ost). My reading of the
microsoft knowledge base articles was that this would give
me a max of 2Gb. However I am still getting emails from my
system administrator that my inbox is over limits (18Mb -
which is just 3 or 4 Excel attachments).

Is it possible to get Outlook 2000 to store my inbox only
on my hard drive?

Thanks in advance,
Kai Richmond

All of your default folders are synched to the .ost - you can select which
other folders are synched. However, this does not relieve the problem of
your mailbox size.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, KaiRich asked:

Milly's right - your OST file is just a copy of your mailbox (and other
things like the offline address book, any public folders you selected, etc).
You're getting the message that your mailbox itself is over the limit. You
need to do some housekeeping on your mailbox...delete old sent items, empty
deleted items, etc....

Hi all,
Thanks for your suggestions, but the solution was to
create a personal file on my hard drive (.pst) and set my
rules to move everything received into the personal file
on the hard drive.
Thanks anyhow.

Yes, but no one else will be able to see your Calendar then.

Well, that's one option, but it removes all your mail from the server so it
can't be backed up or managed - you can't use OWA or share folders with
others, and if something happens to your hard drive your data will probably
be lost. Talk to your admins about how they want you to do this (if you have
some). PST files are not recommended as your sole storage if you have the
option of Exchange.
