offline files not visible

K

Kurt @ RFT

Have a user connecting to our VPN. When he is connected, his my documents
folder, (which is mapped to a network drive), is fine. It is set to make
available offline, but when he disconnects, the folders within my documents
are visible, but they are all empty. I have had him manually syncronize the
folder and then it is OK for a bit, but the problem is random. Sometimes all
is OK offline and sometimes there is nothing. Any suggestions?

Hello,

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft newsgroup!

From your post, my understanding on this issue is: one user lost his
offline files randomly. If I'm off base, please feel free to let me know.

Since the problem you described is random, I suggest we do some steps on
the problematic computer to narrow down this issue:

A. Follow the steps in the following KB to re-initialize the offline files
cache and database:
How to re-initialize the offline files cache and database
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/230738

B. Scan system files. Please quite all the running applications before
covering the following steps:
1. Click Start -> Run.
2. Input cmd and click OK.
3. Input sfc /scannow and click OK.
You will be asked to insert Windows XP CD.

C. Clean boot
1. Click Start -> Run
2. Input msconfig and click OK.
3. Click Service Tab and check Hide all Microsoft Services and click
Disable All.
4. Click Startup Tab and click Disable All.
5. Click OK and reboot the computer and test again.

Please also collect an MPS Report for the problematic computer.

To generate an MPS Report
------------------------------------
1. Download MPS Report tool from below URL:
915706/MPSRPT_NetworkEXE>
2. Execute the tool on the computer, and if you are prompted "Include the
MSINFO32 report?", please type Y.
3. Please send the result file (CAB file) to me at (e-mail address removed).

For detailed information about the MPS Report Tools, please refer to the

Please let me know whether the above steps help. If anything is unclear or
you have any concerns, please feel free to post back. I am glad to be of
assistance.
