Officejet 710 won't print color in XP

Hello,
I have a laptop running Windows XP. I am connecting to the HP
OfficeJet 710 via a USB cable.

A while ago I had it printing just fine with color, but I remember
it required forcing Windows to use different Officejet drivers than it
wanted.

Anyways, right now I am using the drivers from the HP website.
However, I can only get 300X300 black and white printouts. Even though
in Printer properties it acknowledges that it is a color printer.

This is a 600X600 dpi color printer. How do I make it print in
color? Thanks.

Make sure there's ink in the color cartridge. You could also call
HP's tech support at 1-800-HPINVENT

I am just using the drivers found on the HP site:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...product=58127&lang=en&softwareitem=oj-22748-1

Located at the bottom of that page.

The program that HP installs is looking for a parallel port, but my
laptop does not have a parallel port. I am using a USB to parallel
port cable to connect to the printer. And then I create the port
manually and use "Have Disk..." to locate the drivers that come with
that download.

Late last night, after deleting all the previous drivers from
system32/spool/... I got the printer to print in 2 out of its 3 colors.
It might be completely out of yellow, but I'm not so sure.

I am thinking it's more worth my while to buy a new officejet or
lexmark that works with USB by default.

Thanks for the tip! It's been a while since I've bought a
printer...which you could probably tell seeing that I'm still using the
Officejet 710.
