We are upgrading from MSO97 to MSO03. What has changed
in WORD? Not what's "new", but has changed? Thoughts???

Thanks

That's a pretty big jump. The biggest difference you'll see is the Single
Document Interface; although Word 2003 allows you to opt out of it, don't be
too hasty: you may find you love it. Word 2002 introduced a lot of changes
in the reviewing tools (Comments and Track Changes) and in mail merges; some
of the problems with the former are fixed in Word 2003; to deal with the
latter, see http://homepage.swissonline.ch/cindymeister/MM2002/MM2002.htm.

Some of the menu items are nested a level deeper (for example, Insert |
Cross-reference is now Insert | Reference | Cross-reference and Tools |
Envelopes and Labels is now Tools | Letters and Mailings | Envelopes and
Labels). The toolbar button style has been changed twice. Some dialogs are
organized differently; for example, Page Setup has just three tabs now:
Paper and Paper Source are combined, and the header/footer margin has been
moved from the Margins tab to the Layout tab (don't ask me why).

One of the biggest innovations is the task pane. Some people love it; some
hate it. It's unavoidable for some operations (such as Help) but can
otherwise be largely ignored. If you can't get it to go away, get the Task
Pane Controller from
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/ShowTaskPane.htm

Some of the new features ("2 pages per sheet, Print Zoom) are wonderful;
others ("Book fold") were not ready for prime time.
