I very often get the message " the margins of section 1 are set outside the
printable area of the page" when I go to print. If I contine the page prints
fine. This is ok except when I want to print multiple pages, like in a mail
merge. When I go to print it comes up for every page. No matter how I
change the margins it still comes up when I try and print. Any help would be
appreciated.

It could be some kind of corruption in the printer (through driver, software,
printer communication, printers current ability to read data), and not the
Word document, program, or margin adjustments. If possible, it couldn't hurt
to check your print header/alignment. Run all testing and maintenance options
available, within your printer, as well.

I get the same thing and the help is so unhelpful! All it says is that the
printable area is fixed because the printer cannot print to the edge of the
paper. This is absolute rubbish!!!!!
As an example, I wished to print on paper slightly smaller than a DL
envelope. If I use the DL envelope standard paper, it lets me fix the margins
as 1cm all round. However, if I go for Custom, just 1 cm narrower (same
length) it "fixed" the bottom margin as 7.92cm (one third of the paper
length). This is stupid because,as I said, the length hasn't changed. Worse
still, if I ignore it, then it only prints 2/3 of the page.

I guess someone has set this up just to frustrate users and force us to use
standard sized paper.

If anyone can tell me how to fix this problem, I would be most appreciative.
