Office Excel 2003 SP2

I have just allowed Office Update to upgrade my Office 2003 to SP2 and now
have a problem with Excel (Word is OK). On closing a workbook the Office
Assistant crashes, Excel apologises and says it will close, but does not. It
can then be closed normally. Also, any attempt to use help gives "Error
Starting MS Help" as does the "Tech Support" button on the "About Excel"
dialogue.

My Excel is 2003 at 11.6560.6568 SP2.

Can anyone offer any help? I would be grateful.

Have you tried uninstalling the service pack? I know they are listed in the programs available to uninstall. You could then (after a
cold restart) go to the update site if you want to and do the update again "manually". If that doesn't work, you may end up having
to reinstall office. Hopefully you can save your settings before you do that if reinstall of Office is required. At least that would
save you some degree of aggravation after you get things back in working order.

Thanks for the suggestion. Apparently the only way to remove an SP on MS
Office is to uninstall the whole suite and re-install - inspite of it
appearing to be possible due to the listing in "Add/remove programs".
