office assistant

Hi all -

We recently upgraded Outlook to be the 2003 version with office being the
2002 version and are having issues with people who use the office assistant.
They tend to get an error message from other office programs (Excel, Word)
that says There are no Office Assistant Character Files present on the
system. Please run Setup in Maintenance Mode and install at least one
character.

In my testing, it appears that the error comes up once you have picked the
office assistant in Outlook (not clippy) and then opened Word and picked one
there (again, not clippy), then closed both programs and launch Excel - the
error always comes up. Me I just don't use the assistant, but most of my
customers really like the assistant and don't want clippy. Any thoughts?

We have office XP installed the only application that is not the XP version
is Outlook, which is the 2003 version. Both are installed complete.

Are all Office applications from the same version?

The Office Assistant simply doesn't work or works inconsistently with the
problems you describe when the parts of Office are mismatched in version.

I realize that - I found an article out on Microsoft that said it's a problem
but they really don't have a fix that I can find. I need a solultion as to
why it doesn't work consistantly so that my phone doesn't ring off the wall
with people that like the office assistant and use it.

The point is, you'll have to tell them, "Get used to it. It doesn't work
with mixed versions of the Office programs installed." There is no way
around it.

Thanks for the help. Just wish it was different - that is what we had told
them, but you know customers, they always want everything working.
