I just purchased a new computers, which has Windows XP
Home. Can you tell me if I can install Office 97 on this
computer, instead of purchasing a newer version of
Office? Thanks!

Hi

Office 97 will install & run on XP, but you may like to consider upgrading in the very near future. I found with Office 97 on XP, there where alot of anomalies.

As long as you have not installed Office 97 on a different computer
using the same license (Product Key), then you may install it on
your new computer. Be sure to visit the Microsoft Office Update
website and download all the available updates after installing
Office 97.

Hi, RH.

Office 97 should install and work just fine in WinXP. For more Office help,
visit one of the many Office newsgroups here.

I have Office 97 installed on my current (older) computer,
but have not installed it on any Windows XP system.

Yes. The only issue that will arise if you are using OE is the Spell
Checker and can be fixed:

Go to Start/Run/EXPAND X:\i386\CSAPI3T1.DL_ C:\CSAPI3T1.DLL (Where X is your
CD-Rom drive letter). And then copy it to: Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof

Or download the file here: Replace the Csapi3t1.dll file

An error occurred while the spelling was being checked.

Checkpoint: Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools

In the right pane where it reads: SharedFilesDir, verify that it reads:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared under Data.
