Carey, I changed a few things back to the way it was or what I hoped
that was causing some of the problems. Did a reboot and then installed
the XP updates 1 of 7, then rebooted.
I let the computer take longer than usual to load, hoping that is hadn't
fully installed the XP updates. Yet All the programs in Office 97 pro,
MS Frontpage 2003, MS Publisher 2002, and Windows Explorer crashed when
tying to open a different directory than the default directory. I then
wrote down the error code:
szAppName : explorer.exe szAppVer : 6.0.2900.2180 szModName :
hungapp
szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00000000
C:\DOCUME~1\OWNER\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER57e1.dir00\explorer.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\OWNER\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER57e1.dir00\appcompat.txt
Apparently this happens often and not because of the update. I then
looked on several websites to solve the problem. One suggested to use
notebook to look at the appcompat.txt file in that directory. I couldn't
find that directory, but all of a sudden Windows Explorer and Excel did
let me choose a different directory. I don't know what happened but for
this session it's working.
Thanks
Terry
