Office 2007 on Vista Ultimate

I installed Vista Ultimate and Office 2007 as a clean install and so far have
had only one problem: Every time i open a Office program or double-click an
office document regardless of the office program, the windows installer
window opens, gathers information, closes and THEN the program opens. Even if
I have i.e. Word open with a document in it, if I try to open a second
document, the 'installer' process cycles again.

Any ideas?

I can't answer your question .. but you might mention if you are running as
an admin or standard user, are part of a Active Directory or are
stand-alone/small-network etc. etc.

I am logged in as an administrator on a stand-alone machine. The point is
that it keeps running the installer when I try to open a document.

Here is something related on Office 2000:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=265194

Back up any particular registry key before modifying (use Regedit's File >
Export on key highlighted).

I found other people reporting the problem with Office 2007 but no one has
posted an Office 2007 specific fix. I could imagine you attempt the Office
2000 fix .. see if it works. If it doesn't, restore the registry key(s) to
what it was before you tried. Be careful editing the registry manually as
there can sometimes be no room for error.

Also have a read on this:

[Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility]
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=290301

Also, when you installed Office, did you instruct the routine to put
evrything on the harddrive? That *might* help.

Otherwise, I'm at the end of my tether so to speak .. if you discover the
problem, post back, please?

You might try running Microsoft Office Diagnostics. Open up Word, click
the round button in the upper left, click "Word Options," click
"Resources," then click "Run MS Office Diagnostics."

I am having the same problem. I've called Microsoft 3 times and spent hours
on the phone with them and no one can give any info on this. One rep tells me
its a Windows Vista problem and then another rep tells me it's an Office
problem. So after 3 days and endless hours on the phone still nothing is
fixed. And there is no patch as of yet for Windows Installer 4.0 so you can't
even reinstall it

Oh yeah one other problem. Now every program that I have install since Office
2007 will run the Windows Installer prior to opening

I'd copy the complete Office CD to a local drive folder, run Setup.Exe
and take the "Repair" option. Once the full code is available locally &
not from the MSOcache it may resolve your issue(s).

I too am having this same exact problem on Vista Ultimate x64. I have
tried reinstalling/repairing/using windows installer cleanup/copying to
hard drive. Nothing fixes this.

Someone help?

Quote some of the original post and someone may be able to help.
