I have never had this happen and am not sure it's even a VISTA problem. My
sister in law sent me a Word document. I clicked it to open (which I've done
in the past with no problems). It proceeded to load Office 2007 onto my
machine and then opened the document she'd sent!

Unfortunately, now I could not longer open my own documents (Office XP 2002)
without the Office 2007 product key.

I had to uninstall Office 2007 and also Office XP 2002 and then reinstall
Office XP 2002.

Has anyone else had this problem? I've informed my sister in law not to send
me anymore documents from her Office 2007. But, in the past, I've always been
able to open older (and newer) versions without this happening. For awhile I
was afraid I'd be forced to go out and buy Office 2007. Has Microsoft figured
out a way to try to force us to buy the new product??!!

You probably had the trial version of Office 2007 on your computer. Many
retailers install it.
Your sister probably sent you a document in the new .docx format that
triggered the Word 2007. Ask her to save the documents in the older format
that you can use.
If you don't want to keep Office 2007 on your computer, just remove it.

Thanks, I didn't realize I had the trial version. I did remove Office 2007
and when I did, it removed my ability to use Office XP 2002. So, I simply
reinstalled it and all is well.
