office 2003 word program hangs for 25 seconds

I use word as my outlook editor and have a home network but I'm not sharing
files. When I launch word it takes 25sec to open! When I close it takes
just as long (I've timed it) and it frequently ask if I want to save changes
to global template "normal"? I don't think this is normal! Any suggestions
would be greatly appreciated!

I've turned off my Norton System 2005 Office plug-ins and have even reloaded
Office 2003, but it didn't help. I then performed system recovery once I
figured out that I lost outlook files...ps. this feature worked great!

Thanks Anne. It looked right on the money...I tried all but the last step
and so far nothing helped. I guess I'll have to remove and reinstall. Do
you recommend a good software for Office 2003 removal?

Removing and reinstalling rarely helps, but FWIW it takes at least that long
for my copy of Word 2003 to open the first time (subsequent launches are
faster). In your case, however, the problem is most likely an add-in of some
kind, probably the Office Plug-in if you're using Norton AntiVirus. Try
disabling the plug-in and see if that makes a difference. See “OFF: Latest

THANK YOU SUZANNE! I removed the Word SUites Add-ins and this fixed the
looooooong hanging when launching and closing Word in Office 2003!

Ah, yes, the Works Suite Add-in is one of the worst offenders. You've saved
yourself a lot of grief all round.
