Off-topic stuff (was: Handling boot viruses)

Bah! This stupid OE "line too long" error has caused me to remove the
reference header in order to reply.

I don't think I've seen more than one or two posts in the last
several years for which the previous post is missing.

Mine appears to employ some kind of filtering, no doubt to help
prevent abuse. For example I never see those viral binaries posted
in text-only groups.
Anyway it is probably not a Good Thing for a thread to go past two
or three weeks in a newsgroup like this.

This thread is cross-posted to 3 groups, and I'm following it in
alt.comp.virus. There's a thread here, started on 17 May which is
still going strong.
It isn't as if there is much added value after that time.

Perhaps not for the original poster in alt.comp.antivirus, but we've
moved off-topic since then with this subthread. This exchange about
posting style has only been going a few days. I have no problem with
thread-drift or OTness.

Bah again! I meant 17 April, not May.

This now for our consideration from 'Ant'

"This thread is cross-posted to 3 groups, and I'm following it in

followed-up by this

"Bah again! I meant 17 April, not May."

Oh, April 17 makes more sense. The Earthlink news servers have all the
posts to alt.comp.virus back to 14FEB04. Very long, massively cross-posted
threads take a very long time to subside, and may be a deliberate attack by
cooperating trolls.

That's true, but not the case for the thread I was refering to. It is
only in ACV, and only ACV regulars are participating in it.
