OEM Xp Pro reinstall

Carl

Hi,
I need to do a clean reinstall on one of our office Xp
machines but am not sure which specific oem cd in my
possession was used for that particular machine
originally. I have it narrowed down to 1 of 6
possibilities. Do I need to have the matching disk? If so
how can I isolate which one ?

Thanks for any help offered,
Carl

Greetings --

The specific OEM CD you use really shouldn't matter, assuming
they're all from the same manufacturer. What's unique to each PC is
the Product Key, which will be located on a label affixed to the PC.

Whilst it "should not" matter you can be very paranoid, and that is good with Software Versions, builds etc., you can find out what you want by:

Open systeminfo utility and check build / version etc. or, better, run systeminfo at command promt, pipe to text file and find all the info you info you reqiure include Product ID.

i.e. Example

Command:

C:\>systeminfo > %temp%\myinfo.txt

Sample Output:

Host Name: WZ8M9D4HXKV4P3R
OS Name: Microsoft Windows XP Professional
OS Version: 5.1.2600 Service Pack 1 Build 2600
OS Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation
OS Configuration: Standalone Workstation
OS Build Type: Uniprocessor Free
Product ID: 55274-640-0527957-23284

To find where %temp% is located type echo %temp% at command prompt, you will find your datafile in that location. (It is not in Windows Temp folder %temp% is your private tempdir)
