OEM XP errors

If I install an OEM version of Windows XP from Dell on a
non-Dell PC, would that prevent me from installing
software? I installed XP which seemed to go fine but
have tried to install Office 2000, 2003, MS Streets &
Trips, and Partition Magic and all of them bombed out
with errors. Downloaded software installs fine but not
ones on CD. Any ideas on the issue here?

It is not legal to install a Dell OEM copy on any other PC. I'm surprised it
even installed as I had thought these copies were tied to the Dell system
BIOS. Anyway, you should purchase a legal retail copy for your computer.

OEM versions of Xp are licensed to one computer and are permanently tied to
the first machine they are installed on. You won't be able to activate it on
a second machine so your software installation problems are moot.

Don't believe all these brown nosers say. The office
problem has nothing to do will the dell bios. If the cd
installs you're good to go. it is the cd that is tied to
the BIOS, the program could care less.

With Dell software you have to install it on a hard drive
on a dell bios motherboard then swap the hard drive to the
new system, some will work as you have found out. Once the
SLP have been violated it will activate like any other XP
OS. Works Suite comes boxed from MS and Dell just puts
their sticker on it will install. On Office they may have
the CD keyed to the BIOS.
