Hi
I recently purchased an OEM version of Vista and had to reinstall on my
intel mac a second time. However the product key is not being accepted. Can
you advise me how to get it working - its the same machine so the OEM license
should apply.
Thanks.

If you can't activate via the internet then use the telephone option (it is
a toll free number). The activation sequence is automated so you will go
through the activation sequences on the telephone. If, activation refused,
don't hang up. Simply stay on the telephone until it is answered by a 'real'
person. You can then explain the situation and the support person should be
able to activate it for you.

You said you have successfully installed Vista Home Premium once?. Are you
installing into a Virtual machine like BootCamp or something on your Mac? If
you are you probably had to create a new Virtual machine and the signaures
(that uniquley identifes the computer) that Windows looks for might not be
the same so it looks like a completely new machine. The OEM version of Vista
is non transferrable, so it must be run/installed on the computer it was
orginally bought.

If you do manage to get some at Microsoft to activate it do not tell them
you are installing Home Premium on a Mac. The software license prohibits the
running of anything other than Vista Business and Ultimate from running under
a virtual machine.

Vista is very picky about hardware changes. I upgraded my 3.2 GHz
Pentium D processor (dual core) to a 3.2 GHz Pentium XE (dual core
with hyperthreading on both cores) . Vista 64 OEM forced me to go
through a phone call to get the machine running again. Totally uncalled
for IMHO since the disks, video card, lan card and everything else
was exactly the same.

Worse, with Vista Home Basic, an installation on Asus P5B Deluxe, E6600 and
a Raid config of 2 x 200 GB Western Digital (raid 0) with 2 partitions of 100
and 300 GB.
First activation without problem.
2 days later, I extend my 1st partition (system) from 100 to 200 GB (2nd
partition reduced to 200 GB) without re-installing anything and Vista claims
for a new activation through a phone call. In this case, there was absolutely
no change in hardware.
But the phone procedure is easy (excepting the sound quality of IP phone
used by live operators :)).
